The Danger of Relying on AI for Legal Advice After an Accident or Injury

There have been many news stories about artificial intelligence (AI) and the many ways we can use AI assistants and chatbots to make our lives easier. While this technology is helpful, there is one thing you don’t want to use AI for: legal advice. Turning to a chatbot rather than a personal injury attorney if you’re injured can negatively impact your claim and could even keep you from getting the fair compensation you deserve.

At Flaxman Law Group, our family-based legal team understands that after a serious injury or accident, you may be worried about additional costs. That’s why we offer a free initial consultation with an accident attorney if you’re injured. We make it free and convenient to consult with an attorney, so you can easily get reliable information about your options for a legal claim.

What Is AI?

Artificial intelligence, used to power chatbots and other systems, takes large amounts of data from many sources and uses AI algorithms to solve problems, make sense of a lot of information, and generate text, images, and video.

With a chatbot or AI-powered online assistant, you can ask questions of the system and it will provide instant, coherent answers that mimic human intelligence.

What Are the Risks?

The big problem is that AI may look like human intelligence but these systems are not intelligent. They cannot think for themselves and don’t “understand” the way humans understand. You can ask AI about your injury and accident, but there are several risks with this:

  • Hallucinations. AI systems regularly generate inaccurate or false information, which are known as “hallucinations.” These incorrect facts can seem very persuasive but can harm your case. For example, an AI chatbot can tell you that you don’t qualify for a legal claim when you do. This can have a devastating impact on your future if you believe this inaccurate information and decide not to file a claim.
  • Lack of nuance. Attorneys rely on nuance, human judgment, and human interpretation. Chatbots and AI can’t do this, which can mean they misinterpret case laws as they apply to your case.
  • Reliance on inaccurate information. AI systems are trained on online information, so if there is a piece of inaccurate data that shows up repeatedly on the internet, an AI system may mistakenly repeat it to you. Unlike an attorney, it can’t distinguish between something true and false.
  • No personalization. No two legal cases are the same, which is why South Florida personal injury lawyers draw on their experience and interpretation of the law when evaluating your case. AI doesn’t do that and isn’t capable of producing personalized advice. When you ask a chatbot a legal question, you’re likely to get a generic answer that may not be relevant to your specific situation.
  • No stakes. There is no legal recourse if AI provides inaccurate information or legal advice to you and you act on that information. AI is not held to a professional or ethical standard and research has found biases in AI systems as well. An attorney, on the other hand, is obligated to act in your best interest and is answerable to state regulatory bodies, including the state bar. If an attorney doesn’t act in your best interests and you suffer losses, you even have the option of filing a claim.

Ultimately, AI is a powerful tool that’s getting better all the time. It’s a great option if you’re looking for recipes, movie recommendations, and more, but it can be dangerous to rely on this technology for legal advice after a workplace accident, slip and fall, or any serious injury or incident.

Instead, contact Flaxman Law Group to speak to a South Florida accident attorney at no cost and with no obligation. Our legal team has over 50 years of combined experience and we’ve recovered more than $100 million in verdicts and settlements.

Charlie is a very skilled attorney that advocates hard for his clients. But the best part is he is an all around great guy. He cares about helping and doing what is right for people and his community. And he is not afraid to fight against those who do wrong or against threats to our world. He is fluent in Spanish as well. Do yourself a favor and call him. Andy

I had a lawyer on another case and I never spoke to the lawyer and I hated that I never knew what was going on in my case. Mr. Flaxman was in constant communication with me, explained everything to me, and his staff was really great too. My phone calls were always returned immediately. It was refreshing to be able to speak to my attorney personally. I would HIGHLY recommend Mr. Flaxman as an attorney to anyone who has been in an accident. Gloria
