New Trucking Technology Promises to Prevent Collisions

New trucking technology is always being developed in an effort to curb trucking collisions in Miami and other communities. Technology ranges from new roadway systems to new safety systems for trucks.

Daimler Trucks North America has recently rolled out a new safety system called Detroit Assurance. Detroit Assurance uses Active Brake Assist and Adaptive Cruise Control to prevent crashes and save fuel. Radars allow a truck driver to maintain a safe following distance from any vehicle automatically, reducing the amount of decision-making needed and reducing the margin of error to prevent crashes.

New Bill Could Help Crack Down on Inebriated Boating in Fort Lauderdale and Other Florida Cities

Florida has many waterways and while this presents wonderful opportunities for boating and recreation, the many boaters in Florida also make the state the leader when it comes to serious and fatal boat accidents.

One of the risks associated with boating is the risk of inebriated boating. Unfortunately, some people head out on the water after drinking or drink while boating. Just as in a car, this can lead to slower response times, fatigue, sleepiness, and poor judgment which can result in a collision. Each year, people fall overboard, drown, or crash into other boaters or into the shore because they’ve been drinking and boating. Boating under the influence is illegal in Fort Lauderdale and the rest of Florida, but it is still a serious problem.

How Parking Spots could be Affecting Truck Accident Risks

Many people consider factors such as speeding, fatigued driving, and distraction as causes of truck accidents in Hollywood and Florida. While it’s true that these issues cause many truck accidents each year, experts say that something as seemingly innocuous as lack of parking spots can lead to trucker fatalities and collisions.

When truck drivers need to stop on the road, they can do so at hotels or at truck stops. However, some drivers find themselves far from these types of accommodations. If they arrive early at a supplier’s property or delivery site, for example, they may find that parking areas are fenced off or inaccessible. Simulators Help Truckers Avoid Crashes

Truck drivers need to learn more than the average passenger car driver. There are federal rules that commercial drivers must obey and paperwork that must be completed by drivers. Since drivers also drive much heavier machinery and are responsible for some basic inspections and maintenance, they need to learn how to handle many types of tasks on the road. In addition, drivers need to learn a great deal about road safety so that they can avoid trucking collisions in Hollywood and other communities they visit.

The challenge with truck training has traditionally been that road training can only show truck drivers so much. If a driver is training in Hollywood or anywhere in South Florida, for example, it is difficult to teach the driver how to handle driving in snow or on ice – even if a driver will eventually be driving all over North America and needs to know how to deal with winter weather. Will New Law Help Students Avoid Brain Injuries?

A new law in the state aims to prevent concussions among student athletes in Miami and the rest of Florida. HB-291 requires that student athletes be removed from practice or a game if it appears they may have sustained a head injury or a concussion during a school athletic activity or event. Injured athletes require written permission from a doctor to return to play. Thirty states now have similar legislation.

There is certainly a need for more prevention. Statistics show that 90% of the 300 000 brain and head injuries reported among high school athletes each year are concussions. Under the new Florida law, students who have sustained a head injury will return to sports gradually. They are not allowed back on the field the day they have sustained their injury and they must re-enter the sport with gradual activity, then moderate sport activity, then supervised activity. They can only return to contact sports after a doctor has agreed, in writing, that they are fit to do so.
