News agencies have reported that autonomous, driver-less trucks will be on Florida roads before 2016. According to news reports, these will be the first self-driving trucks to see wide-spread use on US highways. The trucks will be equipment with sensors, lights, and read-end crash barriers. The vehicles will follow a lead car and use GPS waypoints.

It all means you likely won’t see a truck without anyone driving it navigating the roads alone. Instead, what you’ll likely see is a crash truck working alongside a construction crew. One truck will be operated by a professional truck driver and the rest of the trucks will follow in line. These trucks will have clear signs to help alert you. The highly visible trucks are known as crash trucks and they help protect highway crews from pedestrian accidents.

Many parents are now making or buying Halloween to get ready for the end of the month. The stores are full of monster masks, superhero costumes, and more. When selecting what your children will wear, though, you’ll want to consider safety as well as fashion. You want the stories – not safety hazards – to be the only scary thing this Halloween.

Every day, you send your children off to school to get an education. You hope that your child’s time at school gives them a chance to make friends and creates the opportunity for a brighter future. Unfortunately, about 4 million children and teens across the country are injured on school property or while in the care of their schools each year.

Most school administrators and teachers genuinely care about their students and work hard to make sure that all their students are safe. Unfortunately, bad policies, negligence, budget cuts, and overcrowded classrooms can mean that school injuries happen even with the best intentions. No parent wants to get that devastating call from the school, telling them that their child has been injured. Families who have suffered a school injury in Hollywood or anywhere in South Florida deserve answers and support.

Is $500 a lot of money? That’s about the cost of an anti-collision system for big rigs, tractor trailers, and commercial trucks. These devices work simply: they gather and interpret data from around the truck and engage the brakes if the truck driver can’t or doesn’t brake in time to avoid a crash. According to manufacturers and some safety experts, anti-collision system can stop accidents or can reduce the speed and therefore the severity of a crash.

Anti-collision systems are sometimes called mitigation braking or forward collision avoidance or F-CAM systems. They make use of cameras and sensors to gather information about traffic and speed around a truck. If a collision is imminent, the system warns a truck driver with a sound. If the driver does not respond, the system engages the brakes. Currently, about 3% of commercial tractor-trailers on American roads have the devices installed.

Many people in Miami and other South Florida communities decide to purchase a condo rather than a detached house. In many cases, the more attractive prices, amenities, and the maintenance of common areas make these properties very attractive for busy homeowners. Many elderly persons and people living alone enjoy the extra security features many condo associations offer.

Each month, condo residents pay a fee to their condo association to maintain common property and to pay for amenities. Despite the added protection, however, some condo residents find themselves injured in their buildings. When this happens, who is responsible? What legal choices do residents have?

Many studies have shown that fatigued driving is a major contributor to truck accidents – both in Hollywood and across the country. Some people feel that preventing these types of collisions in South Florida and across the nation may be as simple as changing Hours of Service rules and ensuring that truck drivers get enough sleep.

The solutions might not be so simple. For some truckers with a condition known as sleep apnea, fatigue is a daily reality no matter how many hours they sleep. This condition, when untreated, threatens drivers’ livelihoods and the safety of other motorists on the road.

Knee implants are often recommended by doctors to improve mobility and reduce pain. For patients with joint problems and knee problems, implants can be a long-term solution, since these medical devices are meant to last 15-20 years, but some patients are finding that knee implants are not lasting as long as promised. In some cases, the devices are causing serious complications for patients. In the past few years, a number of recalls have been issued for some types of knee plants and many patients have sought legal action after needing additional medical care or after suffering severe injury due to the devices.

Have you had surgery to get knee implants? You are not alone. Each year, over 1.1 million people across the country get hip and knee implants to improve the quality of their lives. Unfortunately, for some of these patients these implants will end up causing rather than solving problems. In some cases, the devices are defective in some way. Some manufacturers have issued recalls of their implants, while in other cases patients are injured by medical devices not yet recalled. In either case, if you have been injured by an unsafe medical device, you will want to think about your legal options and speak to an attorney about your situation.

Diabetes is a serious disease that can eventually affect a person’s ability to drive. Earlier this year, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) exempted over 70 truck drivers who managed their condition with insulin. The truckers will have an exemption for about two years. Usually, interstate truck drivers need to get special permission or may even be banned from driving if they have diabetes. To drive, truck drivers must prove that they have their condition under control or no longer need insulin for their condition.

Defective products and dangerous drugs in Hollywood and other South Florida communities injure many Florida residents and cost significant amounts of money in medical bills and lost productivity at work. Each year, dangerous products also claim lives.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is one group in charge of ensuring that the products you find in your pharmacy, grocery store, and local store are safe for you. The FDA is in charge of enforcing the safety of food, medical devices, medication, vaccines, cosmetics, tobacco products, pet food, and more.

Trucker fatigue is a serious problem. Truck drivers work long hours, and in some cases need to be on the road to deliver products by specific deadlines. Hard-working drivers, though, can be tired drivers, especially when there aren’t rules in place to ensure they get adequate rest.

According to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), fatigue is a leading contributor to the truck accidents that claim more than 4000 lives across this country each year. Over the past two years, the FMCSA and other regulatory groups have supported the idea of new laws to lower the maximum working week for truckers from 82 to 70. The new Hours of Service rules would also create mandatory breaks, including breaks at night.
